About Your New Employer

A specialist palliative care services provider in Cork are looking for a pharmacist on a 2-month temporary contract. 36 hours per week.

About Your New Job as Locum pharmacist 

  • Review the medication requirements of all new admissions to the specialist palliative care wards and supply/dispense any medications as appropriate.
  • Ensure the safe, effective, and cost-effective use of medicinal products within the current legal framework as stated in the Medicinal Products Regulations, the Misuse of Drugs Acts and the Pharmacy Act 2007.
  • Provide a ‘top up’ supply service for the wards in the specialist palliative care service in relation to stock and non-stock drugs and drugs controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Acts.
  • Preparation of extemporaneous medicinal products, when appropriate, in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Review prescriptions for appropriateness of dose, route, frequency, and method of administration. Monitor therapy for effectiveness taking into consideration patient factors and details available from patient records.
  • Dispensing of temporary-leave discharge prescriptions in accordance with Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Individual dispensing of medications for specified residents in the Service for the Care of the Older person.
  • Ensure the safe disposal of expired and unwanted medicinal products in accordance with hospital policy and legal requirements and maintenance of the appropriate documentation.
  • Provision of medicines information to medical, nursing, and other professional staff on the proper and economic use of medicinal products and on the appropriate implementation of the Hospital Medication Management Policy.
  • Ensure the safe usage of medicinal products by encouraging the reporting of adverse drug reactions, medication incidents, implementation of medication safety warnings and product recalls.
  • Dispensing of medication as part of a clinical trial in accordance with current legislation and hospital policy.
  • Attendance at multidisciplinary ward rounds and team meetings where appropriate and when resources allow.
  • Medicines reconciliation of discharge prescriptions including communication with community pharmacists to facilitate seamless transfer of patients/residents where appropriate.
  • Practice in accordance with the pharmacy standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland regulations for the operation of a registered pharmacy.
  • Participate in departmental audit and research as deemed necessary by the Chief II Pharmacist.
  • To have a working knowledge of the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Marymount Hospital & Hospice.
  • To be aware of and comply with safe working practices as laid down under relevant legislation. To attend mandatory training sessions organised by the Hospital.
  • To ensure confidentiality in all matters of information obtained during the course of employment.

 What skills you need as Locum pharmacist 

  • Must be registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland
  • Demonstrate patient-centred focus.
  • Demonstrate experience in reviewing individual prescriptions and medicines reconciliation.
  • Demonstrate team working skills, both within the pharmacy and in a multi-disciplinary capacity across medical specialities.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills including those applicable to presentation skills and report writing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to contribute to the training and development of others both within the pharmacy and in the general multidisciplinary team.

What’s on offer?

Salary €47,025 - €75,330 per annum

35-hour week – Monday to Friday
